We stayed with the microorganism theme, their current science unit, and watched a Discovery Education clip, Organisms Found in Pond Water: Multicellular Microorganisms. Instead of watching the video as a class, students logged in individually so they could rewind, pause and turn on closed captioning in order to modify their learning experiences. They were each required to find three science facts about microbes, write their note 'comment' in a full sentence, then sketch a corresponding image.
This process is taking much longer than the previous tweet activity. It will take two enrichment periods for them to complete. The students needed to re-read directions a few times and be directed back to the sample post. It seems to be more engaging for them, since the video is watched at their own pace. Overall, it seems to be a deeper learning experience. I'll try it again with a future collaborative lesson.
