Our Battle of the Books team propelled themselves into the semi-finals. I'm still swelling with pride for those wonderful kids. It was time to say farewell to some of the team as they forge new horizons in high school this year. If you love to read and want to have fun while making new friends, please consider joining our team this year. I will have an interest meeting in early September, so keep your ears open and your eyes on the announcements!
With our state-wide budget cuts come regrettable staff shortages. In spite of those shortages, we managed to pull out some great teaching and learning experiences through our learning commons, the WMS Media Center. Take a browse through our blog posts from last year >.
My goals include more station-based learning with grade-level teams. We hope to have more action in the literacy promotion facet of our learning commons. Circulation was at an all-time low last year, as was our staffing. There is a direct correlation between them. I hope to work with more parents and community members to boost volunteer help and promote reading in our student body. Reading is so much fun when given the time and tools to participate!
I look forward to another year with information-hungry kids, high-quality staff and engaged parents or community members who all work together to provide meaningful and life-long learning experiences. We will continue to grow in engaging students through current technologies to enhance learning experiences. My teaching passion is fueled from those moments when a student lights up with understanding. I can't tell you how beautiful it is to see a student realize their academic potential and make a real-world connection. I hope to continue this trend in our learning commons. Maybe we will see you there this year? I hope so!
